QUESTION

please define "lifetime warranty"

Asked on Dec 12th, 2017 on Consumer Law - Florida
More details to this question:
I sell machinery with a 5 year limited warranty which is explained in written detail. I have several competitors which offer a "lifetime warranty." "...fully warrantied to the original owner against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product. If a machine ever fails due to a manufacturing defect - even after extended us - we will repair or replace the machine free of charge." I lose sales to this type of warranty because customers think that it is good until they die. Is that true?

First, this is a commerical issue and as such you cannot possibly use internet blurbs as a substitute for actually hiring legal counsel or corporate counsel. Second, such things are defined by the terms of the "warranty" itself. If a competitors marketing is at issue you may need to consider some means of taking them to task though this may mean spending money on legal fees to address such an issue.
