More details to this question:
We signed a contract for additional remodeling work for a shower stall for $6,400 called him next day and told him we changed our minds do not do the shower stall work, he came over that evening and told him again that we are just going to keep the shower the way it is. then a few days later we went to our place and they hammered a large hole in each of the three shower walls.

Something is missing from these facts. While you may still owe the $6,400.00 as written contracts are there to prevent "changing your mind" most people dont go forward with starting repairs or demo when you try to bail on deal.
