can a woman in her 70's sue for the remaining balance of a loan she took out for her son

son decided to stop paying. was paying every month but know dosent want to pay anymore.said he isnt on will so why should he pay back the loan she took out against her paid off home. it is under my moms name and no leagal papers to proof it was for him. but i have a text message that he sent that proofs the loan was for him
