Can I get a non-refundable deposit back

More details to this question:
I paid$500 for the purchase of a dog. within 45 minutes I informed the selled that I could not go ahead with the purchase. The dog was sold within a week. Am I able to get my deposit back although it was considered non-refundable

In some states this would fall within the Uniform Commercial Code which allows for a 3 day cancellation. Contact someone in your state.
