Can I sue someone for breaking a verble contract

More details to this question:
We had hired a mover to move my wife and when he got there he started complaining about the job and said we lied and wanted to charge us double. But come to find out, he already had another job booked.

Most contracts are enforceable even if they're not in writing, and the contract you describe appears to be one which does not require a writing.  The problem is that it is much more difficult to prove a verbal contract, as it will be the other party's word against yours.
