She rented an apartment with a boyfriend. He was arrested and is now is jail and likely won’t get out. My daughter has a heart condition that has worsened lately and the cardiologist is planning to do surgery on her next month. Therefore, she can’t work and has no money and wants to come home. She has 5 months left on this lease. This is in Tennessee.

If she signed the lease agreement, then she is liable. If she did not sign, then she can walk away. Otherwise, you need to read the lease to see if there is a way for her to legally end the lease. If she did sign the lease, then she might go to the apartment management and explain the circumstances to see if they are willing to end the lease.
