QUESTION

Can my independent contract be cut short?

Asked on Dec 03rd, 2014 on Contracts - New Jersey
More details to this question:
I signed an independent contract with an organization for 1 year. In the contract there is a possibility for renewal for one more year. The project has stalled and the organization is not providing direction on whether or not they want to move forward. Can they just dismiss my contract even though I have several months left?

It depends on the terms of the contract.  If the contract is supposed ot be for one year, and neither party has the right to cancel it before that year, then the organization cannot simply cancel the contract.
