More details to this question:
The house I rent in (for 14 years) was sold in February 2020. My lease was transferred to the new owner, in that lease it states that it renews every July 1st for a 1 year time frame. The new landlord has texted me that he wanted to raise the rent, BUT I never received a new lease OR anything in writing stating the terms or any changes being made. I did not pay the increase because I had nothing in writing and paid my normal $650.00. He now texted me that he did not need to give me anything in writing and has also given me 3 different number s for what he now wants to collect. He states he does not need to give me anything that I am a month to month now and that is that. Am I wrong in assuming that EVEN with a month to month he should be giving me a lease??
You should get something in writing memorializing the new rent. Once you have that, depending on how much the increase is, you may wish to speak with an attorney further about this matter and your rights. Feel free to contact us for any further information.
