QUESTION

Does a contract that states the wrong gender of the signer make it void?

Asked on Jun 06th, 2017 on Contracts - Michigan
More details to this question:
I am having trouble getting out of a contract with a gym who won't let me cancel without paying what's due after an auto renewal which I never agreed to at the time of sign up. I had them send me a copy of the contract and it states me as a FEMALE when I am in fact male. My understanding of contracts is any piece of personal information that is wrong can make a contract void from the get-go. Is this true? I hope so.

No.  This is what is known as a scrivener's error, like a typo.  It does not affect the substance of the contract.  However, you can't be auto-renewed without your consent (I suspect, however, that the auto-renewal provision was in the contract you signed, which means that you agreed to it) and in some states (I don't know about Michigan) such an auto-renewal feature is unenforceable in these types of contracts.
