Elderly widow wants to break lease

More details to this question:
My 83 year old mom want to break a lease in FL to move out of state to be closer to family. She has 9 months left and cannot afford to buy out the lease. What would happen if we gave notice and walked away?

She could be sued and have a judgment entered against her for the money she owes and have her credit damaged. This could also impair her ability to rent or leae elsewhere.
