More details to this question:
I got a alarm system 1 1/2 years ago and called to cancel. I was told I signed a 60 month contract. I asked for a copy of the contract to find out that it was not my signature on the contract, which they agreed. After trying to fix the issue for the last 2 months they would only change the contract to 36 months. I explained to them that I they do not have a contract signed by me so I will just not pay. What can I do so they do not ruin my credit for not paying?

Your question is missing some facts. If you had no contract with the alarm company...why were you paying them for 1 1/2 years? If its not your signature on the contract, whose is it? I assume someone who was associated with the tranaction signed the paperwork and this may have bearing on the case. If its a forged or fraudlent signature, its one thing, if its your spouse, its a whole different thing. As sometimes contracts can be formed by conduct, such as payment, you should be cautious in just refusing to pay. You may want to hire a lawyer to examine your documents and to negotiate a settlement of the account with the alarm company to make sure its done properly.
