Did my taxes last week cost me $58, Rep calls says they got rejected and asks for permission to resubmit corrected info. I agree, and i''m asked to come in the next day to sign. Rep is going over it with me and shows me that my state tax return is now only $20 but they had me pay $58 to file. I came to them for their free taxes offer so I refused to sign their papers until I have my refund because im not going to pay them $58 to get back $20. I''m told come in next day, I do so and get told that all is fixed and will receive a $40 refund in the mail within 2-3 business days then given the tax papers to sign. After I sign the rep hands me a ''claims'' sheet that states that my refund claim has been sent to their review office and requires 4 to 6 weeks before deciding if my claim is valid or not. I question it, and im assured once more that 2-3 days I get my $40 refund check. It has now been a week, no check I speak with the rep she says she meant a couple of days, you know a week, maybe two
You can sue for $58 in small claims court, but the filing fee will be most of this money. Instead, call the Attorney General, or if in NYC, the Department of Consumer Affairs.
