My family moved into the home 2016 Jan. I noticed a long list of things that need to be fixed and tended to. I have spent money on fixing my own things in the home. My landlord haven't did anything to make this home comfortable. I went to lay new carpet and found black mold in the rooms, I see it in the walls and yet nothing done. I get a knock on my door in Aug with an agreement to lower the rent to $500 a month with me having to rent as is. I was taken advantage of and still they haven't done anything. I've been sick children and my children have gotten sick. It could be from this mold in the house. Help me please, I've paid my rent all the way up until this month. Fed up
First, you can't continue to make poor decisions and then cry victim when you don't like the results. If the LL offered to lower the rent to $500.00 month which is ridiculously cheap and you agreed - thats your own doing. AS IS means they are NOT going to do anything - thats up to you. Second a LL has no obligation to "make you confortable" again that is your job. A landlords obligation is to make the place HABITABLE. Third- this sounds like there is some trade off where you found a crappy place cheap with some agreement to do repairs to offset rent or simply to make a crappy cheap place better at your expense as an offset to a higher rent nicer place. Bottom line is if they won't fix things and your rent is up this month - give your notice and move to a nicer place for your own health and that of the children. You can have the kids medically exmained and deal with any claims of mold injury after the fact. YOu may want to hire a mold assessor to examine the property to document the extent and type of mold in the property.
