QUESTION

I sent a contract to a client, they changed conditions, without notifying me, signed it and returned it. I didn't notice they'd made changes.

More details to this question:
I did the job and when they reneged on the conditions, I checked and they'd edited the contract, before signing and returning it. Do I have any recourse to hold them to the original contract I sent them to sign? Do I really need to check every contract that's returned to make sure they didn't sneakily alter it?

To answer your second question first, YES,you need to read any contract you enter into.  You can't hold these people to the contract you sent them because they never agreed to that contract.  By altering it and sending it back to you, they made you a counter-offer, which you accepted by performing the work.  I think you're out of luck in this case.
