QUESTION

Is a hand written lease legal?

Asked on Dec 22nd, 2018 on Breach of Contract - Wisconsin
More details to this question:
We are renting a room from a friend who lives in a trailer park. His parents wrote a lease stating that we could live there for 6 months paying 500$ a month. Since then the owner of the park found out we were living there and we had to go through their applications process to continue living there. We no longer wish to live here but the owner of the trailer is saying even if we move out we still have to pay for the remaining months (3 mo). Is the “lease” we signed legal? Can he sue us if we just move out and don’t pay?

While there may be other problems with the lease (does the trailer park allow subletting?) being handwritten isn’t one of them.  If the lease is valid, you would breach it and be liable for damages (which, in most leases but perhaps not this informal one, would include attorneys’ fees) if you fail to pay the rent due for the remaining term.
