my brother sued me for money that wasnt his

More details to this question:
my brother anted to go in on a house he had no credit to get a loan so my mother gave me a gift letter in the amount of 20,000 with my name only on gift letter my brothers name is not on gift letter . the gift does not have to be repaid back . because my brother asked me to go in on house he seems to think that half of this money is his , so my brother sued me in court on june 28 2017 and the judge awarded my brother i lost , but the judge did not even hear my side let alone let me present myself and my evidence , are they not supposed to hear both sides in court? the event happened in manila utah but my brother filed it in salt lake city utah and i do not no what category this between me and brother would be listed under , so i now have a judgement against me by my brother i need to no what i can do

You have 30 days from the date the judgment is entered to file an appeal so you best get moving on it...  as in right now, if you want to appeal the judgment.
