QUESTION
Noncompete and subpoena deuces tecum
Asked on Feb 28th, 2014 on Breach of Contract - Florida
More details to this question:
I was served with a lawsuit in which accuses me of violating my 1 year non-compete. I live in FL and the issuing state was MA. The noncompete is over broad. I refused to answer the lawsuit and quit doing what I was doing. Soon they got a preliminary injunction on me. Fast forward about 9 months, I got a subpoena deuces tecum requiring me to appear March 5th. I know the MA court has no jurisdiction over me here in FL hence why this is a subpoena commanding me from a MA court to a service center here in FL, not a FL court. I don't want go this deposition either, they will try to trap me and get me to convict myself. I do not have money for a lawyer. They want to bar me from the industry. I know they could possibly compel me to go by getting a FL court to issue me a subpoena, in which case I would go. My non-compete is up April 1st. The injunction says pending further order of this court so I know it won't be up in April anymore. Any advice for a poor guy just trying to make a living?

Yes, stop self lawyering before you hurt yourself. Ignoring legal actions because YOU decided, not a judge, that at non-compete is too broad or there is no juridiction over you is a reciepe for disaster.
