QUESTION

personal gift/loan without contract

Asked on Mar 09th, 2016 on Contracts - Florida
More details to this question:
My daughter is going through a contested divorce in Pinellas County FL. Parents of her soon-to-be ex-husband had given money to them for big purchases like truck and house downpayment. No contracts or written agreements exist. Some money had been paid back to the parents, and much was forgiven or gifted to my daughter and the husband by the parents. Parents are now sueing my daughter for full amount of money and not recognizing what they had previously gifted to her and her soon-to-be ex-husband, nor all of the money paid back to them. What type of lawyer should we be looking for? There are 2 lawsuits; One is for $16K in damages, the other is for $33K in damages.

Typically a contract or consumer lawyer is the starting point. This may also need to be addressed through the family law case as it typically will be directly intertwined with it.
