Recovery from an Oral Contract with a Plastic Surgeon

More details to this question:
I owe my doctor 10000 for medical services. I offered to pay him 8000 if he promised not to sue me for the remaining 2000. He took the 8000 and agreed no to sue for the remaining 2000. Can the doctor recover the 2000 amount?
