QUESTION

What can I do to get my money?

Asked on Aug 29th, 2017 on Breach of Contract - Florida
More details to this question:
My husband is a sub contractor. He received a job from a company 3 months ago. They wrote up a contract and signed it. He worked his tail off for 3 months building an 80,000$ dock, which the company he subbed from got paid for. He received about a quarter of what he is owed and the company owner refuses to pay the rest. The job was done beautifully and the owner actually told him that she would've got rid of the company owner weeks ago if it wasn't for my husband. As a result of this, we lost our place to live, had to uproot my daughter from everything she's known and move into a vacation rental until we can find another place to live. Please give me some good advice. I don't know what to do. My husband has already started a new job with a different contractor but I don't feel it's fair that he worked for 3 months with no compensation and this jerk gets to walk away scott free.

Unfortunately, thats just poor buiness decision making on your husbands part. There is no reason he should be doing such work and not making sure he gets paid, especially if you claim the lackof payment caused all the results you described. Your husbands shoul dhave had he sense to stop work if payments weren't made or to make a better deal if he agreed to work three months and get paid in the end. He has the right to sue the owner BUT sounds like he can't afford a lawyer to pursue it so its a catch 22.
