What should I do in this situation?

More details to this question:
Me and my boyfriend recently moved into a apartment which just went under new management. The guy that every tentant was told handled the money stole everyone's rent money and deposits if they were made including mine. Now I have all of my rent receipts and I have the lease. I have paid $425 for the deposit and $425 for the first months rent. Now one of the managers is saying the guy that was stealing everyones money gave us false information and we was suppose to give them first months rent last month's rent and the deposit. Now we have to come up with another $425 after we just gave them $850. To me it sounds like the management team is trying to make up lost money from what their ex manager stole. I don't know what to do because me and my boyfriend gave these people alot of money to stay here already. What should I do and how can I find out if the management team is telling the truth?

Your best course of action is to look at your lease.  If your lease says that you were supposed to pay the first month, last month, and deposit then, you the management company is within their right.  However, if the lease only states the first month and the deposit then, no the management company cannot now go and change the lease.  The lease is your contract, that will govern your relationship with the landlord.  For more information visit us at www.Sylkatis-Law.com & www.LorainDivorceAttorney.com
