I had been arrested in my apt parking lot in January for allegedly breaking in to a car. The police came and the complainant called the apt. managers. There is no physical evidence and it basically this girl's word against mine. I was supposed to go to court on the 20th but the case has not been filed yet. I moved out of my apt and am now staying with my parents. Today, 2 police officers came to my house while I was out. They told my mother that a car had been broken into the night before and something had been stolen. The apt management told the police that I had been a problem and told them where I live. I have no idea what they are talking about me being a problem but it seems odd to me that if they thought I was out stealing things from cars all of the time, that they did not say anything to me. I have not been convicted of anything. The officers wanted me to come down to the station and talk to them. I am freaked out and scared that I am going to be arrested for something I did not do. And I am afraid that anytime there is a car broken in to, the police will be coming to my house. Can I stop them from telling the police that I am potential suspect? Is there any recourse I can take? I
You absolutely need to consult with a lawyer and not talk with the police at this point. It is not possible to help you with the simple response to a question on this site. Make an appointment to meet with a lawyer to discuss the issues.
Do not speak to the police without an attorney. Do not go down there and speak with them either. If you are arrested, use your right to remain silent and just keep asking for an attorney. You can try and sue the apartment complex, but may be hard pressed to recover an damages.
