Can I sue for a minor damaging Vehicles

November 2012 my trucks and my cousins truck also was damaged. My son who was then in High school took a girl out and knew nothing of the Kid who damaged our property. All tires got slashed except cousins tires since his truck was backed in. The police came and took all pictures and statements, My cousin then being self employed had to leave for a month long job, he started his truck and one mile down road his Diesel engine blew up from junk poured into his gas tank, all three of my trucks never started them but destroyed them. The kid who did this was caught as he bragged about it, total bills $27000 for me and cousin 11000 for engine and damages, he could not work much without his truck lost his house and homeless, now just received a $560 restitution check and cousin $500 the Kid plead guilty but parents are high profile and got there son out of state. Im still out all my money even with insurance cousin still struggling to get his life back. HELP
