Can someone be prosecuted for stealing a child's college fund?

More details to this question:
Can someone face criminal charges for removing their child name off their college fund and moving the monies into their own account; then refusing to give money to child? Money was given by great grandparent.

If you took property that belongs to another over $1,000 it is Grand Larceny. Stealing from your child would probably get you a felony conviction and possibly a year in jail.

Sounds more like a civil case than a criminal one. You'd need to consult with a local civil lawyer. The only way for criminal charges to be pursued would be for you to report it to the police. That doesn't mean that charges will ever be filed, but that's your only option.
