A friend of mine was recently terminated on grounds of petty larceny from Abercrombie & Fitch. During their scheduled shift they were asked to step inside a office & pick up a line on the store phone. In doing that they were greeted by an individual identifying themselves as a loss prevention investigator. The individual asked a series of personal questions ranging from personal interests, to College preferences, to even opinions of the company & overall experience of the store where my friend was employed at. The investigator then questioned them about possible knowledge of criminal activity ranging from boosters to employees stealing other employees checks. My friend was cooperative & truthfully answered the questions asked. They didn't know any real Incriminating information just overhearing managers conversations & he say she say from other associates. The investigator proceeded to tell a "personal" story of a friend who was stealing money etc. & how they found out & assisted in "righting their wrongs". My friend was then informed on how they monitor internal theft then questioned about stealing from the company. Again my friend was very truthful about everything & admitted to stealing approximately $170 worth of clothing from the store. After that they were instructed to fill out a statement basically saying what their history with the company was, what was stolen & the manner in which the items were taken. They also wrote an apology. They were then instructed to fill out other paperwork basically stating not to step foot in that store or its affiliates for the next 2 years & filled out a promissory note stating that they would return the merchandise & pay the $170. My question is what should be expected in the future? My friend has another job (also retail). & also still lives with a parent. Will they be arrested or summoned to court? Will their other Employer be contacted? Will their parent find out?
