QUESTION

Is there anything we can do if she drops charges?

Asked on Feb 26th, 2013 on Criminal Law - Texas
More details to this question:
My family & I just found out that my 20 year old cousin stole every piece of my 80 year old grandmother's jewelry(including her wedding ring) & gold coins. The police were able to locate some of the items at pawn shops. My grandma agreed to file charges, since the police were looking for him-he decided to check his self into psychiatric hospital. There is a arrest warrant at hospital for him. We believe my grandma will drop charges, he has a good way of making her feel guilty & coming up with "poor me" stories.

The DA decides whether to pursue the charges not your grandma. So you can try and contact the court that your cousin lands in and tell them not to.

She cannot drop charges - only a prosecutor can. She can tell the prosecutor she does not want to proceed. The family members can contact the prosecutor and explain why they think the charges should not be dropped.
