More details to this question:
Hello, I am in the process of applying for an expungement for a conviction on an indictable offense (illegal possession of a firearm) in New Jersey from 1999. I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how long from the time the papers are filed until the hearing and expungement (if approved). Also, I am now a New York resident for the past 12 years, with no arrests since my conviction. Could I file for a Certificate of Relief from Disabilities in New York for prospective job applications, etc, even though I was convicted in New Jersey, or is the NJ expungement my only option? Thank You
you should apply for and obtain the expingement if you qualify. the time for the expungement is 3-4 months. the certificate would be 'plan b' if you cannot get the expungement. ed dimon, esq.
