QUESTION

What can I do about theft over 500 jail time?

Asked on Jan 26th, 2012 on Criminal Law - Texas
More details to this question:
I live in Texas, Hunt County. I was charged with theft over 500 under 1,500, which I believe is a Class A misdemeanor, considering this is my first offense, other than a couple tickets. My question is how likely am I to get jail time? Can I get off with probation? I'm only nineteen, it was a moment of stupidity I desperately needed money.

Good chance no jail. Don't take just a regular probation because theft is a crime of moral turpitude. Hire the best attorney you can afford and worst case take deferred adjudication probation.
