Bought a kayak worth 1600 for 1100 on Craigslist in Houston TX. Took it out realized I didn't like it and tried to sell it back on Craigslist but undercover cops handcuffed me and charged me with a felony as they identified it by serial number. I didn't get a bill of sale when I bought it. I have printed out sellers ad showing his number, the phone calls we made prior to meeting, and a bank statement showing I withdrew the funds to purchasing it within the hour of buying it. I posted bond and cooperated with police on this issue as I am innocent and never did steal the kayak. I gave them description of the guy who sold it to me and the make and model of vehicle he was in. I have court in 2 days and have printed phone records, photos showing date I bought it, his Craigslist ad showing his description and reason for selling ( he stated he was in a financial bind and needed the money) I believed him since itโs not uncommon for people to sell things lower than value when money is needed, and 1100 is a reasonable price, I didn't feel like I was getting the deal of a life time but a fair price. My girlfriend was with me when we went go buy it. Do I have enough evidence to prove my innocence or am I looking at a realistic chance of getting convicted? Any advice will be appreciated.
