QUESTION

What should I plea for misdemeanor?

Asked on Feb 09th, 2012 on Criminal Law - Texas
More details to this question:
Exact amount was sixty six dollars and change. I'm 24 and this is my first time ever being in trouble other than speeding tickets a few years back. I'm not sure what to plea when I go to court. I had dvds in my purse. Hadn't left the store yet when brought into the office. Officer that arrested me never read me my rights.

If you cannot hire a lawyer, you want to get nothing more than a deferred disposition which is a reset with conditions. If you fulfill the conditions and do as instructed, the case will be dismissed and you can later expunge it completely from your record.

Theft is a crime of moral turpitude and could get you banned from every being hired again. You absolutely need to hire the best lawyer you can afford.
