QUESTION

Will I go to jail for shoplifting?

Asked on Sep 30th, 2012 on Criminal Law - Texas
More details to this question:
I live in Texas and was caught stealing at a store. I have never shoplifted before and never been arrested or charged or anything. I was arrested after getting caught at this store and got released on a bail bond. The items I tried taking were over $50 overall. After I got out they told me I was going to have to go to court. I’m 21 and I will never make this mistake again. I am really scared and don't know what to expect. Am I going to jail? Is there a way I can pay a fine instead of going to jail?

You could go to jail. Or worse, be labeled a thief for the rest of your life. You absolutely need to hire an attorney and do NOT plead guilty to theft. Ever.
