Short story : I accidentally had a hat I forgot to pay, on me while leaving the store premises. There's a long story about why that happened and how I forgot to pay (in short again, the store was making delays in finding an item and I was getting super late for something after, it skipped my mind I had that hat). I have detailed explanation for what exactly happened. Now on my way out a lady asked me whether i had a hat, and i said oh yes i completely forgot to pay for it let me do that now. I walked with her to her office and gave her my credit card to pay for the hat. people there instead started asking me why i was stealing, i tried to explain what happened but they dint listen. They took my id, checked my other shopping bag (i was clean) and called the police. Thankfully the police were a little polite for how nervous I was after the manager told me I was being held there for shoplifting. They made me sign some papers and told me i am not welcome to the store for a year.
