background checks for gun purchase.

Reside in knoxville tn, I was born/raised in NC. Where I also have a criminal record that dates back to 1985.. I obtained a CC permit in 2009, also made a gun purchase in 2009 an 2011.. each time I had to file an appeal, each time it was over turned.. Original charge was embezzlement, conviction was misdemeanor larceny. . This is the only thing I can think of that would have me turned down on a weapon purchase. . how do I find out what the actual thing is that flags me every time on this? why is it being a continuous event?
