Can a cop arrest someone based on hearsay?

More details to this question:
A friend of mine witnessed a burglary and called the cops. They left then came back and told her that they heard some things about her and arrested her. Is that legal?

In answer to your question, YES. But in order to be convicted, the prosecution will need more than hearsay.

They would need enough evidence to substantiate probable cause for arrest. It can be based on someone's testimony alone, but it would have to be very specific and credible. It is determined on case-by-case basis.
