QUESTION

Can a misdemeanor theft be expunged?

Asked on Jan 14th, 2014 on Criminal Law - Illinois
More details to this question:
I have a misdemeanor theft charge from 2005. I am currently a paramedic in the state of Illinois and was wanting to apply for a part time police officer job also. I know they say no felony records to be a cop but I am not sure how a misdemeanor theft charge would count so I was looking to see if it would be able to be expunged.

if you received supervision then you can expunge two years after the supervision period is over. If you were convicted then you can attempt to seal if four years has passed since the termination of the conviction.
