QUESTION

can an attorney knowingly lie

Asked on Apr 11th, 2016 on Criminal Law - New Jersey
More details to this question:
I recieved an email from a girl stating she filed a report against me for harrassment. She advised me to contact her attorney with any questions. I called the attorney and inquired how I get a copy of the filed report. She told me at the police station and I asked what one. She did not have an answer and said she would call her client and get back to me. She called me back and told me what police station and said there are no charges pressed. I called the police station and no report was ever filed against me.

I don't see where the attorney lied. If the client gives information to the attorney that is inaccurate, it doesn't sound like a lie. And an attorney is not required to give legal information to an adversary although they are also not ethically permitted to knowingly mislead someone. But even by your own description, I do not see anything that remotely describes a knowing lie.
