Asked on Oct 18th, 2016 on Criminal Law - Colorado
More details to this question:
I was charged for sec. Degree assault in, and I have only talked to him once, and I when he got the discovery, tried numerous times to get a hold of him and got a voice mailbox that was full, but I kept on leaving messages with the secretary, and I was recently encarcerated for a warrant because he could not get ahold of me, I feel this case is not being investigated and fear that I will be charged for a crime I didn't do. Public defnders do get busy and often aren't as good as you might hope in staying in touch. BUT they are very good lawyers that know what they are doing in the criminal courts. The public defenders I know work very hard on their cases and try to get the best possible result for the client - but they often do not have time to keep the client informed at every step of the process. If you fire your public defender, you may end up on your own needing to pay for a lawyer. If you can do that, I am sure there are many lawyers who will be happy to talk to you and work on yoru case.
