Can I get a deferred sentence for a class 5 felony with no criminal history?

More details to this question:
Over the past 3 months, my friend who works at a store had been discounting many items such as groceries and clothes for herself and I. The store has claimed that we have stolen $8000 worth of merchandise, which is an extremely high and inaccurate number. What I am wondering is, what are the chances that my friend and I could get a deferred sentence or have the charge dropped to a misdemeanor? Both my friend and I are willing to pay a fraction of the restitution right at our first court date, and obviously pay back the rest over time. I am even willing to take a theft class before my court date and show proof of completion to show the judge how seriously sorry and regretful I am of my decisions. Any advice?
My advise would be to obtain an attorney. You face felony theft charges, which can have serious consequences in your life, including your ability to get a job. As to your specific question, I am not sure if you would be able to obtain a deferred sentence. The DA would have to agree to allow a deferred sentence and it would be based on more than just a criminal record. Good Luck!
