Can I get a petit larcey charge reduced?

More details to this question:
Im in VA and I have to go to court for a petit larceny charge in VA, this is my first offense and I have never been in any sort of trouble with the law before. I am a 19 year old college student, how likely is it t get the charge reduced or even dropped? How likely is it that I may have to serve jail time?

The law changed July 1 to allow for a "First Offender" program for first offense theft. The prosecutor has to agree to it. So there is a chance, depending on your jurisdiction and the prosecutor assigned to the case.
