QUESTION

Can I go to jail for a driving without a license charge?

Asked on Oct 01st, 2012 on Traffic Violations - Illinois
More details to this question:
I got caught driving without a license when I made an illegal lane change. The license had expired for 5+ years. The police officer said the driving without a license charge would be dropped if I got a license before the court date, but I can't establish residency in Illinois (or any other state), and so I can't get a license. What can I tell the judge so I won't be sentenced to jail? I can pay the fine if necessary.

Driving without a license is a crime in Illinois. It is always advisable to obtain the services of an experienced criminal defense attorney rather than attempting to defend oneself. Please contact a lawyer as soon as possible before your court date. Lori G. Levin Attorney at Law 180 N. LaSalle, Suite 3700 Chicago, IL 60601 312-972-3756 levin@lorilevinlaw.com www.lorilevinlaw.com
