QUESTION

Can I go to jail for a second offense shoplifting charge?

Asked on Oct 03rd, 2015 on Criminal Law - Minnesota
More details to this question:
So I just got caught stealing 2 packs of gum and an energy drink from a local gas station. I am not on probation, but I have had a prior offense more than a year ago. My girlfriend and I just got jobs, a place, and are having a baby here and I am extremely scared about having to go to jail for this. What kind of charges am I looking at and how can I go about avoiding jail time? I can't believe I'd let myself do this again, especially with so much on my plate.

You'll face a misdemeanor theft charge. Jail is possible. More important though is your record. Hire a lawyer to help you through this thing.
