QUESTION

Can my friend be charged with robbery without any evidence?

Asked on Jan 13th, 2016 on Criminal Law - Michigan
More details to this question:
There was no evidence at all. Court appointed lawyer didn't fight a 3 day trial for my friend who was locked up on claims of a robbery. He's been in jail since July2015. Second day in trial, my friend said his lawyer was basically just not saying anything, not trying to fight the case. What can we do to dismiss, reopen and appeal this trial? He has a month until sentencing. IMO the lawyer was just there to collect a quick check while the African American gets locked back up. He also didn't get picked from the lineup. My friend said the lawyer just sat there and didn't challenge anything. Please help I know his rights are being violated.

He can retain another attorney to help or replace his current attorney, attempt to file motions will have to buy a transcript and potentially appeal (all of which have a low probability of success. This will not not be cheap regardless. Good luck.
