QUESTION

Can someone still press charges against me for theft even if I didn't take anything?

More details to this question:
I do property preservation work. I was at a home that I had authorization to be at and since it was abandoned like all other homes I go to I was going to take a few items with me. The neighbor saw and stated I could not take anything with me that the home use to belong to her son and those were his items. She called the police, the few items I was going to take were all put back. She didn't press charges and the police questioned me and then said I could go. Can she still press charges against me? Since the police are still investigating.

Since the police are still investigating, their findings will determine if charges, if any, will be filed. It is unlikely. Lesson learned, do not take anything unless you have written authorization. It's theft clear and simple.
