More details to this question:
I need to be more specific. I don't have any legal problems right now, but I have a general question that no one I know can answer. If a person is convicted of a crime where the statute of limitations is lets say 5 years, and after that 5 years they are found to be innocent, is there any way another investigation can be launched to find the real culprit? Or is there nothing the system can do about that specific situation

Great question. Prosecutor will reopen case if crime is serious. For example, murder; sexual assault; etc. Will need absolute proof such as DNA evidence not speculation. What are the details ?  Maybe we can help. Ed Dimon 732-797-1600
