Can they be held liable and have to pay us punitive damages for denying us CDL after doing what was asked of us?

My husband and I we accepted to a driving school. When we took our DOT physicals, they came back showing we both had extremely high ketones and were diabetic and that my husband was color blind. They sent us home and said to get evaluated by our primary care doctor. Neither of us have a doctor. We went to a clinic because that was the only place we could afford for $118 total and which is a DOT certified clinic. We both were reevaluated and passed and were given out medical cards. I contacted the driving school to let them know that we were given the green light to come back and we were told that they feel that we doctor shopped. The highway safety would not let us obtain a CDL. My husband quit his job. We sold our car. We did not renew our lease to do this. We chose to sleep literally on the streets so we could pay for the physical and now we are homeless, jobless and have nothing.
