I was caught at work taking money from the register and they said the total amount was about $2,000. This is my first offense, and I understand what I did was wrong but I was facing homelessness. Looking up my case, it says that it’s being seen as aggregate theft with the level of a misdemeanor. What actions can I take to dismiss this case? Is there a way to avoid jail time? Or simply pay the amount back? Please take into account that this is my first ever offense and I have an otherwise clean record. I have been wanting to join the military for years, and this was only something I did because my back was against the wall. I don’t want it to affect my future any more than it already has. Any advice and answers would help.
Any case can be dismissed. Whether a prosecutor will dismiss it is a function of many things including the strengths and weaknesses of the case, who your attorney is, the good things your attorney can say about you. Best case: dismissal. Worst case: 1 year in jail if the value is $2,000. Theft defense.
