QUESTION

Car title and mechanic bill

Asked on Apr 07th, 2014 on Traffic Violations - New Jersey
More details to this question:
The car title is in my name currently. However, the car became my dad's main car once his broke. I didn't sign the title over though. But it became "his" car since June 2012. (Althought technically I know it's mine). 7 months ago I started arguing with my dad to get the paperwork that was needed to sign the car out of my name and he hasn't been cooperative. Since he said the title was in the car and he would mail it out.(We do not live near each other). He has since given me the run around with signing the title. I was trying to be nice by not reporting the car stolen. I just found out today that the car has been sitting at a mechanic's for a year, with a balance. The work was authorized by my dad. They are threatening abandonment charges now. What are my options with this? Is there still time to sign the title over? Or should I report it stolen?

do not report the car stolen. the car was not stolen and you will be charged with filing a false document. the mechanic has a lien on the car for the work done on the car. the car is in your name. you are on the title. i would negotiate with the mechanic. what is the car worth ? how much is the bill ?  ed dimon, esq.
