QUESTION

Cost to defend a hit and run case

Asked on Jul 01st, 2017 on Criminal Law - California
More details to this question:
My daughter was charged with hit and run since she stopped off the freeway, not on the freeway at the time of the accident. We have spoken to one attorney who wants $8K to defend her. He has talked about deferring to a court, defer not dismiss. Kat did stop, she pulled off the freeway and stopped in front of a bank. The other driver followed only to a stop light to take a photo of Kat's plate, but did not follow off to the side street , where Kat stopped. The first hearing is (to plead, determine which court) is July 25th. I like the attorney's references, he was a former district attorney in the city the accident happened it. I did feet pressured to decide immediately to hire him, and have no idea if I should. thank you. Robin

Depending on your daugther's prior criminal history a decent lawyer should be able to make a hit and run go away. Now as to wehther or not $8000 in attorney's fees is a lot would depend on the attorney, location and time involved. You should continue to call around and hire whomever you feel most comfortable with.
