My husbands lawyer does not seem to be providing even the basic quality of representation. He does not respond to phone calls, emails or text messages. My husband has been in county jail for 6 months with no bond for a non violent crime. The lawyer has not even visited with him except for about 10 minutes before any hearing. He has consulted with the DA on several occasions to remind her of deadlines she has nearly missed (that could have potentially dismissed his case, or at least gotten him out on bond). He had mentioned to me and my husband that his intentions are to file a motion to reduce bond and hasn't done it, and when I ask him about it, he doesn't respond to me. My husband has tried to contact his office via prepaid phone calls and collect calls with no success. He has completely ignored my husbands right to speedy trial (finally got a trial date of 1 year after arrest) and is doing absolutely zero to enforce that right, or to attempt to get him a bond. Please help!!
There are several ways to attack the problem: the best is to hire a lawyer. Think how much he would have earned if he had been out of jail in the first place even after paying the lawyer. Next is to file a speedy trial motion. This may be a good idea in some courts but not in others. Lastly is to file a request for appointment of a new lawyer based on lack of due diligence on the part of the present attorney.
