criminal lawyer help

More details to this question:
I was caught stealing cash from work ($250) i was terminated and the company pressed charges. I agreed to pay back the money i have a court date next week this is my first offense and I can not afford an attorney. I have read that courts dont appoint public defenders to cases where jail time is unlikey(Like first time misdeamenors) I was wondering what I could do and what will happen to me at court? I live in illinois

In most states, if you qualify (low income) you can have a PD appointed. In fact it is federal law under an old case named Gideon. Call your local county PD office and ask. Do not do this without a lawyer
